The American Chemical Society can be accessed online via the following website.
The ChemFinder database contains some physical and thermodynamic properties that you may find useful, especially for your laboratory experiments.
In order to download ChemSketch 5.0 (PC only) for drawing molecular structures, check out the following site. Please note that structures generated using this program can be pasted onto MS Word as well as saved in a format readable by Protein Explorer (a derivative of RasMol). This is especially pertinent to Chemistry 1B and Organic Chemistry 7A/7B students.
A wonderful introduction to general chemistry is provided through ChemWeb, a site containing many of the topics that will be covered throughout the semesters. Another noteworthy site for students in chemistry is provided by Norton, which contains many of the topics that are covered in both Chemistry 1A/1B.
Safety information for various compounds can be found using the following MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) at this site by typing in the name of the compound (sorry, no molecular formulas here!).
To learn more about the various Nobel Prizes awarded in Chemistry, check out the following site.
In order to download Protein Explorer software to view various molecules, go to their homepage. The instructions are clear, and this site also guides the user on how to download macromolecules from a Protein Data Bank (PDB).
