Explores photography as a means of creativr expression.
Introduces photographic theory, including camera operation, exposure,

PHOT M01B -3 units
Intermediate Photography
Prerequisite: PHOT M01A or suitable porfolio
Class Hours: 2 lecture, 3 lab
Explores variety of traditional techniques in black and white,
including high contrast images, solarization, posterization, gum
bichromate printing and cyanotypes. Reviews film sensitivity testing,
developer density parameters, paper and paper developer
characteristics, archival processing, the use of medium format
cameras, and introduction to the view camera. Emphasizes creativity.
Applies to Associate Degree. Transfer credit: CSU; UC

Basic Color
Prerequisite: PHOT M01B or suitable portfolio
Class Hours: 2 lecture, 3 lab
Introduces principles of color photography. Develops expressive
visual statement. Reviews processing of transparency materials,
emphasizing creative special effects achieved through unique lighting,
films and camera techniques. Encourages experimentation. may be
taken two (2) times for credit. Applies to Associate Degree. Transfer

PHOT M04 -3 units
Advanced Photography
Prerequisite: PHOT M03 or suitable portfolio
Class Hours: 2 lecture, 3 lab
Emphasis is on individual projects. Generate ideas and, with
instructor guidance, work on problem of intensifying personal
statement through the medium of photography. Applies to Associate
Degree. Transfer credit: CSU
 
PHOT M08 -3 units
Basic Photo-Journalism
Prerequisite: PHOT M01A or suitable portfolio
Class Hours: 2 lecture, 3 lab
Introduces aspects of photography applicable to mass
communication as well as broadcast and print journalism.
Concentrates on translating ideas to images for reproduction in
magazines anss newspapers and as book illustrations. Includes special
effects, use of camera and light as creative tools, and basic motion
picture techniques. May be taken two (2) times for credit. (Same
course as Journalism M08). Applies to Associate Degree. Transfer credit: CSU

Labratory Practice

Class Hours: 0.5 lecture, 4.5 lab
Offers instructor supervised lab work for beginning, intermediate

Electronic and Digital Photography
Prerequisite: Course in the discipline
Class Hours: 2 lecture, 3 lab
PHOT M60I HAS A MATERIALS FEE OF $5.00
Introduces electronic photography and image processing on the
Macintosh computer, using silver halide films, electronic still cameras
and various scanning techniques to produce photographic output.
May be taken two (2) times for credit. (Same courses as Graphics 27.
Formerly GRD 60E). Appliesto Associate Degree.
