Emergency Medical Technician-Basic

Are you attracted to dramatic, dangerous situations?? …….and able to keep your cool? Come and check the Emergency Medical Technician I Program (EMT) at Moorpark College. This program can be completed in only one semester!

The EMT program will prepare you for:

  • An entry level emergency health care team member position
  • To work as a Certified EMT
  • Paramedic school prerequisite

Duties of an EMT

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) functions as an entry-level emergency health care team member and provider of emergency care. This program will provide you with instruction and practice in dealing with emergency situations such as bleeding, fractures, air-way obstruction, cardiac arrest, and emergency childbirth. Students learn to use and care for common emergency equipment such as oxygen delivery systems, backboards, suction devices, splints and stretchers. EMTs should have good dexterity and physical coordination. They must be able to lift and carry heavy loads. EMTs need good eyesight and accurate color vision. EMTs should be able to exercise good judgement under stress situations and have leadership ability. Emotional stability and the ability to adapt to may different situations will be helpful in many emergency situations.
