Keyword Relevance Search Tips

  • The Online Library Catalog defaults to Keyword Relevance Search. Leave the "Find Results in" menu set at the default Keyword Relevance Search.
  • Enter your words in any order. The library system will search for ANY of these words:
  • You do not need to use capital letters.
  • Use quotation marks around phrases of two or more to search for an exact phrase, such as "global warming," "capital punishment," "animal rights," "renewable energy sources."
  • Use a question mark (?) to find different variations of a word or variant endings of a word (truncation). Teen? will find "teens", "teenager", "teenagers." Alcohol? will find "alcohol," "alcoholic," "alcoholism," etc.
  • Use "+" to mark essential terms, e.g.,+biography being an essential term. A search for "toni morrison +biography" will find biographies of Toni Morrison
  • Results are ranked by relevance
  • use the word OR between your search terms when you want to broaden your search and getting fewer results.

The results from your search will be ranked according to relevancy with the most relevant results at the top.
