How Does Simple Search Work?

Find Results in What's Being Searched
Keyword Relevance Search Will look in the entire record for your keyword. When using Keyword Relevance searching, you may choose to limit your search. This can be done by either selecting the Quick Limit pull-down menu or clicking the Limit icon at the bottom of the screen.
Subject Heading Search Will search for the exact terms within the subject headings field of each record.
Title keyword Search Will search for keywords in the title of the item. You don't need to know the first exact word of the title. Type a few words. If your title begins with "A" "An" or "The," do not enter those words.
Author Will look in the records for items by a specific author. Enter the last name first, then first name or first initial. Do not use punctuation. Example: Shakespeare William.
Call Number This option is useful if you are familiar with the Library of Congress Classification system and other classification numbers assigned by the library to identify certain items. If you know the books, CDs, or videos call number, you can type it to browse what other items are nearby on the shelf. The Library uses the ANSCR system to arrange its music CD collection. A selected number of videotapes and DVDs have been arranged by genre such Drama, Foreign Films, Musicals.
Note: This option is rarely used.
Example of a call number search Typing "Comedy," for example, will provide an alphabetical listing of all videos under that category. Typing MJ, a call number for jazz music assigned to music CDs, will provide an alphabetical list of all CDs with call number MJ.
