How Do I Find Subject Headings?

  • First, start with a keyword search.
  • Use your own own words.
  • Look at the records for books or articles on your subject.
  • Check the subject terms that are assigned to your items.
  • Jot them down and use them later in a subject search or click on the subject term links if they are provided in your database. Most databases have live links that connect you to other materials on the subject.
