I am a strong proponent of experiential and interdisciplinary learning, and I encourage all students to:

  1. study abroad! I created my own internship as a junior in college where I worked at an archaeological dig in Germany. It was a fantastic experience.
  2. take classes outside your subfield, as well as within your home discipline, dependent on your interests and experience. For many archaeologists, courses in the other anthropological fields provide insight into past cultures. Additionally, classes in fields such as geology, statistics, and environmental studies often prove invaluable.

  3. conduct independent projects. Nothing compares to creating and implementing your own research design. It is a great way to learn.

Thanks for visiting my website.  It is still under construction, but please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or comments.

VENTURA view

Site discovery in California...south facing view of an archaeological site in Ventura County, California.

Note the discolored leaves on the lemon trees, which is caused by the calcium carbonate in the shell midden.
