About the City of Moorpark

Nestled in a flourishing valley in southeastern Ventura County, Moorpark is one of California’s best kept secrets. Boasting spacious mountain views, a perpetual vacation climate and historical western charm, Moorpark is the perfect blend of country and city living. It’s within easy commuting distance of Los Angeles to the south and Santa Barbara to the north. And, now with Metrolink, visiting Los Angeles does not have to mean a long slow drive on the freeway.

Recognized for decades as a leading agriculture center, Moorpark is now becoming a center for environment-conscious industries and home to an increasing number of Fortune 500 companies. Location

Moorpark is 12.44 square miles in size and is conveniently located in the southeastern part of Ventura County just 50 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles. Moorpark has an elevation of 500 feet and is surrounded by hills with a backdrop of the Topa Topa Mountain Range.

Transportation

Moorpark is served by Metrolink, a train that takes commuters to downtown Los Angeles, with stops in the San Fernando Valley, including Burbank Airport. The Burbank, Van Nuys and Oxnard commuter airports are within 40 minutes of Moorpark. Los Angeles International Airport is only a 60-minute drive. The Southern Pacific rail system provides convenient freight and passenger service to extended U.S. and Canadian markets. Amtrak provides rail service as far south as San Diego and as far north as Seattle, Washington.

Moorpark is directly served by two freeways and one highway, with immediate connections to five major freeways.

Major Commercial Centers

Mission Bell Plaza: The home of the first large retail store. This plaza includes a movie theater, supermarket, and restaurants.

Town Center: Located at Moorpark Avenue and Los Angeles Avenue, the Town Center is home of the Moorpark Chamber of Commerce, and Moorpark’s first supermarket.

Gateway Plaza: Located on the southwest corner of Spring Road and East Los Angeles Avenue, known as the shopping center with the Fountain, the center contains retail shops, restaurants, medical offices and small businesses.

Moorpark Plaza: Located on the southeast corner of Spring Road and New Los Angeles Avenue. This plaza contains many retail shops, restaurants and small businesses.

Varsity Park Plaza: This plaza is located on Princeton Avenue in the center of a residential community in the area of Moorpark College. There are restaurants, medical offices and small businesses providing for the community.

High Street: In downtown Moorpark, High Street is a quaint area that reflects the original flavor of a small southwest village of the early 1900’s. The sundries shops of yesterday are today’s charming boutiques, specialty shops and eateries.

Nearby Universities

University education is available within an easy commute from Moorpark. California Lutheran University, California State University at Northridge, and California State University Channel Islands provide accredited undergraduate and graduate programs. Their continuing education, graduate studies and on-site employee training programs are of particular interest to Moorpark’s business community.

Of added importance and conveniently located is the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Conference Research Center, surrounded by the peaceful Tierra Rejada Valley. The library has an extensive research center which is utilized by people from all over the country.
